A dog shredding Eye of the Tiger! Yes!

Today at the end of the Pony Fish Island Bridge I came across this rockin pup! He was shredding out Eye of the Tiger at the time and 100% brightened the miserable Melbourne day. Whoever you are Mr Dog, I salute you (and give you my spare change).

Castratii's Kingdom

KINGDOM is the first single from Castatii’s new album Eora - being released in June. Castratii are a musical collective from Australia's Blue Mountains. They make a bunch of densely abstract and dreamy gloom-gaze sounds, kind of like an aural re-imagining of the enormity and sparseness of Australia's wilderness. If this is anything to go by, I am definitely excited for the album!

Happy Birthday Keith Haring!

While visiting Australia in 1984, American artist Keith Haring painted an outdoor mural at the Collingwood Technical College in inner city Melbourne. This mural is the only remaining publicly-sited work made during Haring’s three-week visit and as you can see is very faded. Earlier this year I was asked by Desktop Magazine to photograph the controversial mural for one of their feature articles.

Today marks (what would have been) Keith's 54th birthday. In 1988, Haring was diagnosed with AIDS and sadly he died at the age of 31 on February 16, 1990.

Beautiful, lovely music

“Alive Inside” is a documentary that studies the effects of music therapy on the elderly, and examines the quality of life of nursing home patients, especially for those who suffer from degenerative diseases. Social worker Dan Cohen, along with neurologist Oliver Sacks, author of “Musicophilia,” describe the way that patients “awaken” when music unlocks memories. Commissioned by the The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation,  Alive Inside will premiere on April 18 at the Rubin Museum in New York.
